Getting started
What is Movin?
Movin is an iPhone app that locks the social media apps you choose and gives you time to use them for every step you walk. When the time you've earned runs out, the apps lock again, so wanting to check social media becomes a reason to walk.
How many steps does it take to earn a minute of social media?
You can choose from five exchange rates. "Easy" is 30 steps = 1 minute, "Normal" is 50 steps = 1 minute, "Solid" is 100 steps = 1 minute, "Strict" is 150 steps = 1 minute, and "Hardcore" is 200 steps = 1 minute. For example, on "Solid", 1,000 steps earns 10 minutes of social media.
Can I change the exchange rate later?
Yes. Choose a new rate under Settings > Exchange rate. Today's remaining time is recalculated with the new rate.
How long does earned social media time last?
You can choose under Settings > Time expiry. After you change it, the new expiry applies to time earned from then on.
Which devices are supported?
Movin supports iPhones running iOS 18 or later. Android is not supported.
Steps and charging
My steps aren't increasing and no social media time is accruing.
Check the Health permission. 1. Open Settings > Connections 2. If Health is not connected, allow it 3. If it is connected but steps still don't increase, open the Health app on your iPhone and check that "Steps" is turned on for Movin Steps you walk without carrying your iPhone (or wearing your Apple Watch) are not counted.
Are steps from my Apple Watch counted?
Yes. Movin uses the step count recorded in the Health app, so steps measured by your Apple Watch are included. Steps from the same period are never counted twice.
I walked, but it takes a while for my steps to show up.
Steps appear when your iPhone records them in the Health app, which can take a few minutes. Opening Movin loads the latest step count.
Is the Motion permission required?
No. It is only used for what's shown on screen while you're walking. Turning it off does not affect step counting.
Locking apps
I want to change which apps are locked.
Go to Settings > Locked Apps > Change apps. Your new selection takes effect immediately.
Apps aren't being locked.
Check the following. 1. Under Settings > Connections, is Screen Time allowed? 2. Under Settings > Locked Apps, are any apps selected? 3. Do you still have social media time left? (Apps stay open while time remains.) If that doesn't solve it, restart your iPhone and try again.
I have time left, but I can't open the app.
Open Movin once and check that your remaining time is shown. If the app still won't open, restart your iPhone and try again.
Does Movin see which apps I use?
No. The apps you choose to lock and your usage time are handled entirely on your device by Apple's Screen Time features. Nothing is sent to us, and we have no way of knowing which apps you chose. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Is it OK to lock the phone or messaging apps?
Please do not include apps you need for emergency contact among the apps to be locked.
Pricing and purchases
How much does it cost?
There are two plans: the Lifetime plan (a single one-time payment) and the Monthly plan (renews automatically every month). The exact price is shown on the App Store and in the app at the time of purchase.
What's the difference between the Lifetime plan and the Monthly plan?
The features are the same. The Lifetime plan is a single payment that lets you use Movin for good, with no further charges. The Monthly plan renews automatically every month.
I switched phones or reinstalled the app. Can I keep my purchase?
While signed in with the same Apple Account you used to purchase, tap Settings > Plan > Restore Purchases. Note that your step records and settings are stored on your device, so they are erased when you delete the app.
How do I cancel the Monthly plan?
Go to Settings > Plan > Manage Subscription to cancel on the App Store screen. You can also cancel from Settings > your name > Subscriptions on your iPhone. After cancelling, you can keep using Movin until the end of the current period. Note that deleting the app alone does not cancel your subscription.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds for purchases are handled by Apple. Please request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I purchased a plan, but it says "Not purchased".
Try Settings > Plan > Restore Purchases. If your purchase is awaiting approval, it becomes active automatically once approved. If that doesn't solve it, please contact us.
Other
I want to stop notifications or change their time.
Under Settings > Reminders, you can turn them on or off and change the time of day.
How is the estimated weight loss calculated?
Of the steps needed for your social media time, only the part above your current average is converted into calories burned, assuming walking at a normal pace (about 100 steps per minute, 3.5 METs), using the formula from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's physical activity guidelines. This is converted to weight using about 7,200 kcal per kilogram of body fat. It is an estimate, and results vary from person to person.
I want to delete my data.
Your step records and settings are stored only on your device, so deleting the app erases all of them. If you would like your purchase information deleted, please contact us.
